    Vazhakkai Podi (Fry)

    I think i have mentioned this before..I am not a book addict, i dont read novels, i dont read story books. The only book i read is cookbooks. Recently i have started reading magazine..I have been hooked to Good Food magazine. Each month i will be waiting for the book to arrive. I have written a recipe for that magazine and it got published as the reader recipe of the month. How cool is that..

    Ingredients for Vazhakkai Podi

    • Vazhakkai / Raw Banana - 7 medium size
    • Water as needed
    • Salt to taste

    For Roasting & Grinding:

    • Oil - 1 tsp
    • Channa Dal / Kadalai Paruppu - 3 tbsp
    • Toor Dal / Tuvaram Paruppu - 3 tbsp
    • Dry Red Chilli - 4
    • Asafoetida / Kaya Podi / Hing - ¼ tsp

    For Tempering:

    • Oil - 2 tbsp
    • Mustard Seeds / Kaduku - 1 tsp
    • Urad dal / Ulundu Paruppu - 1 tsp
    • Curry leaves - 1 spring

    Why am i talking about this so much. Because this recipe is from that magazine, and i tried it immediately..It was a huge hit in my home and everyone loved it so much..This recipe has become one of the recipe in my repitore..So here you go to the recipe.

    How to Make Vazhakkai Podi

    1. Cut bananas in half and steam them for 15 to 20 mins till the bananas is cooked completely.
    2. Now peel them and break them into rough pieces.
    3. Now make the spice powders. Heat oil and fry all the ingredients on a low flame till they are nicely golden.
    4. This will take around 5 mins. Allow them to cool down and powder them finely.
    5. Now heat oil in a kadai. Add in all the tempering spices and saute them for a min.
    6. Add in the cooked broken banana and season them with some salt. Toss well.
    7. Now add in some water and sprinkle in the powdered spices. Mix well.
    8. Let them fry for 5 mins or so.
    9. Switch off the flame and serve with rice.

    Ingredients

    • 7 medium size Vazhakkai / Raw Banana

      Did try this..the taste was good, but color was very mild was not appealing like yours.

      2. The banana pieces and the masala dint stick to each other well.

      @JThere may be two reason, one you haven't cooked banana well. Or you didn't add water before adding the spices
